At St Mary's we value Physical Education and sports and recognise the importance of both physical and academic development. Our children take part in a wide variety of activities as part of the PE curriculum, including gymnastics, dance, games, athletics, swimming and outdoor and adventurous activities. We also provide a range of extra curricular opportunities, which you may read more about on our extra curricular clubs and activities page.
We have our own indoor swimming pool at the school and the children from all year groups enjoy swimming for the majority of the year. Our specialist swimming instructors make sure that the children grow up as safe, confident swimmers. They also run extra curricular clubs in the summer term.
We have been proud to be the winners of the Dengie Schools' Swimming Gala in 2016, 2017 and 2018 consecutively.
We take part in lots of local sports events and competitions including rounders, football, dodgeball, cross country, netball, swimming, tag rugby, orienteering, athletics and cricket. We are always proud of the children who represent us at these competitions and they often make it through to finals, as well as winning or gaining top places. Our school sports day is always a real celebration of the year of sport. We use this event to promote a positive attitude towards competition and develop good sportsmanship.
We participate in activities such as high ropes and sailing at the Bradwell Outdoors Centre.
