St Mary's Achieves the School Games Bronze Mark Award!
We were pleased that we achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we and we are delighted to be recognised for our success.
With a record number of young people competing in local inter-school competitions in recent years, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs. We are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school was rewarded.
We have our own indoor swimming pool at the school and the children from all year groups enjoy swimming for the majority of the year. Our specialist swimming instructors make sure that the children grow up as safe, confident swimmers. They also run extra curricular clubs in the summer term.
We were proud to be the winners of the Dengie Schools' Swimming Gala in 2016, 2017 and 2018 consecutively.
We take part in lots of local sports events and competitions including rounders, football, dodgeball, cross country, netball, swimming, tag rugby, orienteering, athletics and cricket. We are always proud of the children who represent us at these competitions and they often make it through to finals, as well as winning or gaining top places.
Our school sports day is always a real celebration of the year of sport. We use this event to promote a positive attitude towards competition and develop good sportsmanship.
We participate in activities such as high ropes and sailing at the Bradwell Outdoors Centre.
